Hi my name is Lisa Fisher, founder of ABC Starters. I started this website to help parents teach their children their letters and sounds.
I am a mother of three beautiful little girls. I am a mommy first. Which, in so many ways, makes me a teacher first. I am also a wife and, when I can be, my own person.
I am so grateful for teaching in a school system for ten years before having kids. It helped prepare me as best as anything could.
Before a husband and kids I was always a teacher first. It is my passion. I love to teach and learn. I have a Bachelors in Deaf Education pre-K to 12th grade. As well as a Masters in Education for School Counseling.
Turning the clock back further, I started teaching as a teenager in Karate. I have three black belts in three different styles of martial arts and I still continue to learn new things to teach others. This is where my love for teaching began. I continue to teach today wherever I can.
My daughters are my greatest challenges in this endeavor. They are not just my students they are a product of me. No matter how I say it, I will shape them the most. Failure is not an option in my mind. No pressure right lol. That’s the mommy life.
This leads me into how I started this journey to help parents teach their children. You see, my oldest daughter has always been in love with her letters and sounds. I struggled to find a lot of options for introducing and teaching her her letters and their sounds at the age of two. I could find apps and videos like crazy.
There were little-to-no books available to help me. Don’t get me wrong, I have found great resources to help her as she becomes older, but back then I wanted something to help her at the age of two. And let’s just say worksheets and printables were not working.
I found myself asking what do I do? I decided that I would take charge. This is where I began to research even harder and eventually decided to create my own ABC books. I decided to not create one book with all of the letters. Instead, I decided to create one book for each letter which focuses on the sound that letter makes. The methods are creative, fun, and effective.
I struck gold with my daughter. She loved them and as she grew my other daughter loved them too. I have been learning how each likes to be read to in their own ways. Switching it up depending on their moods.
I have well over 20 years teaching experience in a multitude of different ways. Kids have always been a big part of who I teach.
My kids just added another portion to my experience. I am still learning and will probably always be learning how to best raise my kids. Now I can only hope to help others with this journey as well.
Thank you,
Lisa Fisher
